Even if you’re a long-time Android user, you most likely stumble over some long “hidden” features that you didn’t know existed from time to time. Just having a look into the settings or playing around with your device will present some kind of new thing that you didn’t know was there before. I continually finding myself browsing through various aspects of my Nexus 7, particularly after the update to Android 4.4, just to see what has changed and what I haven’t noticed before. As such, we’ve included some pretty well known tips and well as a few other hidden gems that most users might not even know about even after using their device for some time.

Enable auto rotation of the display

It may seem a bit counter intuitive, but the rotation of the display is not enabled by default on the Nexus 7. As such, you’re stuck with a fixed display when you get the device and it may seem cumbersome for a device with a much larger screen than just your standard smartphone. There is a very quick way to be able to fix this and be able to freely have your screen adjust to whatever orientation you want to hold your phone, landscape or portrait. Simply swipe down from the top right hand of the screen to bring up your Quick Settings (this might be a tip in itself as many users aren’t even aware of how to get to Quick Settings!) and just tap on the Auto Rotate square to enable or disable this feature. Voila!

Enable screen zoom

There are situations where when you`re looking to pick up a particular piece of content from a website, such as viewing a photo, and you want to be able to pick out more detail or get a zoomed in look. Well, with the screen zoom feature you can have an “imaginary magnifying glass” that hovers around your screen. This can be enabled by heading to Universal Access in your settings and choosing the Magnification Gestures option. When turned on, every time you do a triple tap on the screen, you can enlarge it and then use a pinch-to-zoom gesture to enlarge the screen even further. To get back to a normal screen, just triple tap the screen again to return to normal.

Larger Text

It is not really intuitive to hold your tablet extremely close to your face, such as is the case with most smartphones. Since it makes more sense to hold this larger device further away from you for reading purposes, it is also common to find situations where the text size displayed is often too small to be read at a comfortable distance. You can increase the default text size through your settings to combat this annoyance and make it so default text, such as display by a web browser, is automatically enlarged. To do so, head to your settings and go to Display and Font Size, where you can choose from four sizes for your default font. Similarly, you can get the same results by going to Accessibility in your settings and and choosing the Large Text option.

Copy and Paste

This may seem extremely trivial, but this is a very important feature when it comes to using tablets that can easily be overlooked just due to not knowing exactly how to do it. To select a portion of text that you want to use, just hold your finger over it for about two seconds. This will then highlight the text and a bunch of options will pop up at the top of your screen, such as copy, paste, cut, and more. If you want to expand or constrict your highlighted portion of text, just use the two marking edges and drag them to the desired length that you want. It is hard to believe that there was a time on smartphones and tablets that this wasn’t even a standard feature.

Disable WiFi during sleep mode

WiFi is a power hungry beast when it is being used, but did you know that by default that WiFi is still active, even when you’re not using your device or it is the middle of the night? Thankfully, your Nexus 7 has the option to disable using WiFi during these times that you can control. If you head to your WLAN settings and then tap in the top right corner and choose Advanced, you’ll see a slew of options to choose from. By clicking on Keep WiFi on during sleep, you can choose from either having it on all the time, only when the device is plugged in, or never. Keep in mind, this will limit the connectivity of the device so if you rely on WiFi to get messages or push notifications, you won’t receive them again until you physically wake the device up.

Disable auto sync on your accounts

Google automatically syncs all your Google accounts to your Nexus device, such as Google+, Gmail, and app data. This can be a bit cumbersome if you don’t necessarily want or need all that stuff on your device or just want to keep it separate, due to multiple accounts or whatnot. In your settings, you can head down to the Accounts area and click on whichever one you want to modify. In this case, we chose Google. From there, you can then unclick all the data that you don’t want synced on this device automatically, whether it be Google Calendar items or even Google Photos.

Disable app notifications

Do you have apps in which you constantly receive notifications from, but you really don’t want to see them anymore? If you head to the Apps portion of settings, you can select the offending app from the list of installed apps and then just uncheck the Show Notifications option just at the top of the opened page. That’s all it takes to remove the ability for that app to continue sending you notifications.

One of the great benefits of using an open operating system like Android is the ability to customize it the way you want. You can change the default font to your favorite one, use a third party launcher and even install a new skin on your device without much trouble.
Android also allows you to select the application that should complete an action for you. Indeed, if there are several applications that can, let’s say, play music files, Android will ask you which one you would rather use, be it for this time or all future files. In this post, we will show you how to select these applications and how to undo this selection to reset your default apps.

Picking Your Default Apps
If you have more than just one application on your device that supports a specific file type, you will be prompted to select which one you would like to use to open your file. This choice can be set to be permanent, in which case your device won’t ask you about it anymore, or a one-time selection. The latter simply means you’ll be asked the same question next time you open the same file type.

When several apps can open a file, Android will ask you which one you’d like to use

Let’s take a concrete example: On my Galaxy Note II, Google’s Play Music, Samsung’s Touchwiz Music and ES Music Player can play music files. When I open an audio file, my phone lets me select which application I would rather use to play the file. I have personally chosen not to set a default application, because I manually open the music player when I want to listen to my music, and not the file directly.
Nevertheless, I particularly dislike Samsung’s default Gallery application, which I have replaced with QuickPic. In order to do so, I had to set QuickPic as my default application for photos. Thankfully, the process is particularly easy, as you simply have to select Always after you select the app to open your file, and your device will remember your choice and won’t ask you again.
Similarly, I’ve selected Google Chrome to be my default browser instead of Samsung’s and I also had to tell Android to open all web pages with Chrome. For browsers, you may be prompted several times, as Android will recognize protocols — https:// etc — in addition to file types, which is why you may have to confirm your selection more than just once.

Resetting Your Selection

What happens if you try a new app and end up liking it more than your current browser? You would need to reset the default application before setting the new one as your default browser. The process is fairly simple, but somehow different from the approach you may be used to on your computer. Indeed, while most people are used to having a specific file type being associated to an application, Android associates an application with a file type. In simpler terms, this means that if you want to reset your default browser, you would need to reset the application settings for your current browser. Here’s how to do it:

• Go to your Android Settings
• Select Applications
• Select the application that is currently set to open a file type — for example, Google Chrome
• Scroll down to Launch by default and tap Clear defaults
• You’re all set. Next time you open a web page or an HTML file, you’ll be asked to select your preferred browser.

Be careful, if your app is associated with several file types, they will all be reset. This holds particularly true for media players, as they can play audio and video files.

Thanks to Android, it’s easy to use several apps and select which one to use when opening a file. This allows for more flexibility, as some applications are more complete but take longer to load. Of course, if you’d like to stick to a single application, you can easily set your device to open a specific file type using that app. In both cases, you can truly customize your system and environment according to your preference and needs.

HTC One X Factory Reset Fix Bugs and Problem Issues

If you have a  HTC One X at hand and notice some bugs and issues regarding your device and wanted to fix it accordingly the only solution for now is by doing a factory reset. This is only a temporary option just for now until your device will get a new OTA firmware updates. I hope for those who plans on buying the the HTC One X, please dont get disappointed, this is only some minor glitches from the software and also happens on some other Android devices. As I already mentioned, this can be easily fix by another software update sooner, but until there is no update yet, this is the simplest solution.

Heres a known bugs and issues that have reported by HTC One X users that have been brought together   from XDA-Developer forum. Thanks to H-Cim for starting the thread and all the HTC One X users who participated and came up with some known bugs and issues altogether.

Bugs

• Screen stops turning orientation, even in settings menu G-sensor no longer moves. - POSSIBLE FIX : Go to taskmanager and kill all tasks - All credit and thanks go to casca
• Calendar widget crashes if more then 20 appointments - TIP : Just remove the widget since it will keep crashing until you remove it...
• Other HTC widgets seem to be causing lag too.
• GPU Rendering cant be forced.
• Live wallpaper stops on switching between screens
• GPS issues - Possible fix : Download gps status on the market and clear the a-gps data - if this works all credit and thanks go to matmar
• Screen starts "jumping"
• When browsing/camera/other Sense 4.0 related tasks -> It looks like there is "noise" on the screen. Like this
• SIM card stops working/restarts/no connection
• The three dot menu button appears in some ICS native apps, like the YouTube app for example. - Fix for this in Dev section (requires unlock)
• Tegra 3 games (and some others) lag, this is probably connect to some video driver bug. (Hardware is fast enouf to play it without lag)
• Screen reactivating after using the lock-button (only 1 click ofc)
• When opening the Clock app (just by pressing the clock on your homescreen), and moving to the Timer-tab (the one on the far right) it always adds one hour, one minute and one second to whatever time you set it to.

Issues

• Lag in Multi-Tasking window and other elements - TIP : Go to Dev Settings - disable animations. This improved the speed a lot for me (even thou most animations keep on running, only the excessive ones get turned off) [This lag is clearly a software issue, other launchers are lag-free; should be fixed soon]
• A lot of people are reporting signal problems. (No clue whats causing it)
• Yellow spots on the screen

If you’re passing HTC One X on to someone else or HTC One X has a persistent problem that cannot be solved, you can perform a factory reset (also called a hard reset).

Warning: Factory reset will permanently delete all your data and customized settings, and will remove any applications you’ve downloaded and installed. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.

Performing a factory reset from settings

   1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap .
   2. Tap Storage > Factory data reset.
   3. Tap Reset phone, and then tap Erase everything.

Performing a factory reset using hardware buttons

If you can’t turn HTC One X on or access settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the hardware buttons on HTC One X.

   1. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
   2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
   3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.

If the problem still persist after performing hard reset, you might need to wait the new OTA software update from HTC. A software update fro HTC devs will only fix all known bugs and issues mentioned above for your HTC One X.

How to increase internal memory in android mobile and tablet

Hello friends I m here with New trick. This will help you to increase internal memory of your android mobile. Because some mobiles are comes with reserve internal memory. There is no option to install app in memory card. So you are unable to install more apps and you have to uninstall other apps. To solve this problem try this method.

• Download and install Link2sd from playstore. Its free
• Now you need to create partition of your sdcard.
• To create partition use PC and download minitool partition wizard software.
• Open minitool partition wizard and select your memory card to create partition.
• To create partition backup your data from sdcard to pc.
• now delete partition of your sdcard and create New partition. 
• Right click on unallocated space and choose create. A New window will open saying "create New partition".
• Select "primary" in create as, choose file system as "FAT32". And enter the size for sdcard data which you will use to store data like song,picture,videos etc. And clicj on ok.
• Now you will see two partitions of your sbcard one is FAT32 and other is "unallocated".
• So now right click on unallocated space and Select create. Now select Create as: "primary" and filesystem as: "ext2". And select available size and click on ok.
• Now you have two partitions in your sdcard. One is fat32 and other is ext2. 
• Click on apply button on the top of the screen.
• it will take some time and done.

So you all think that why I have created two partitions and second partition is created as ext2 format. So in link2sd you have to select ext2 file format. Because android is linux and it supports only ext2,ext3,ext4 it doesnt support NTFS fike system as default file system. And ext2 is faster t

han ext3 and ext4,  therefore we have choose ext2 partition.
so when we install app it will goto that partition of your sdcard and doesnt use internal space of your mobile.

After rooting an S3, custom recovery images can be created, as all Android systems have a recovery partition. This recovery image can later be used if the OS has crashed and to reflash the OS for device recovery.

1. Launch the ROM Manager that you installed in the previous step and select Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and choose your device.
2. When you select the Superuser prompt, choose the “Grant” option.
3. The recovery image is created after it displays “Successfully flashed”.

Loading Custom ROMs ~ Step by step procedure:

Only if the device is rooted and a recovery image is created based on the steps mentioned above, Custom ROMs can be flashed into the device. All the different types of ROMs developed have their own differences, so try few and find which the best based on your usage.

• Select the ROM that you prefer based on your S3, then download it as a .zip file to your computer.
• Once downloaded, copy the .zip file without extracting, to the device’s SD card.
• Disconnect the device from the computer and open ROM Manager from your apps.
• Select the Reboot into Recovery option and the device would start rebooting after that.
• After entering into the recovery mode following the reboot process, use the volume buttons to navigate(selecting through options) and power button to select Backup and Recovery.
• Choose the Backup option and select yes for confirmation. This might take some time so you’ll have to wait till it completes.
• Select Wipe Data / Factory option ->Select Flash zip from sdcard.

• Select the copied zip(ROM) file from sdcard and choose it. Click yes for confirmation and wait for the process to finish flashing.
• Once it has finished flashing, Select Reboot System Now. It is the newly flashed ROM after the reboot is done.

How to sync photos to your Dropbox for Android and iPhone

Don’t want to sync your iPhone or Android snapshots with iCloud or the Google+ social network? Here’s an easy alternative.
Dropbox is a handy, simple-to-use file-syncing service (click here to download and install the free Dropbox desktop utility) that boasts apps for both iPhone and Android.

You can set the Dropbox app (click here for the iPhone app, or here for the Android version) to automatically sync all your mobile photos with your Dropbox, or you can pick and choose which snapshots to upload.
Best of all, Dropbox is only as social as you want it to be. Sure, you can easily share your Dropbox photo albums with anyone, including non-Dropbox users; by default, though, your pictures are stored privately in your Dropbox account.
Ready to start syncing?

Just select the Dropbox folder you’d like to sync your photo to, then tap the Upload button.

For Android:

• First, install the Dropbox app onto your phone, then sign in to your Dropbox account in the Settings menu (tap Settings, then tap “Add account” under the Accounts heading*). If you get the option to turn on a feature called “Camera Upload” while you’re installing Dropbox, just tap “Cancel” for now—don’t worry, we’ll get back to it.

Launch the Dropbox app on your handset, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the screen, tap settings, then tap Turn on Camera Upload. You’ll get the option to automatically upload photos only when you’re on a Wi-Fi network (a good idea, lest you rack up pricey mobile data charges), and you can also check a box to sync all your existing pictures (a potentially lengthy process, so be warned).

Tap the “+” button in the top-right corner of the Dropbox app to upload photos from your iPhone.

For iPhone:

• Install the Dropbox app, then sign in with your Dropbox username and password. As with the Android version of Dropbox, you’ll see a “splash” screen asking if you want to turn on the Camera Upload feature; for now, tap “Cancel.”
• All set? Then let’s start by uploading a single photo. Take a picture with the iPhone’s Camera app, then go back to Dropbox.
• Tap the folder where you’d like to sync your images (such as the pre-existing Photos folder), tap the “+” sign in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap the Upload Here button. Your picture should sync with Dropbox within a minute or so—and once it does, you’ll see it sitting in your Dropbox folder on your Dropbox-connected PC or Mac.
• You can also sync all your iPhone photos with Dropbox by turning on the Camera Upload feature. Tap the Settings gear in the bottom-right corner of the screen, then tap Camera Upload, and flip the switch to “On.”
• A secondary screen will ask whether you want your photos uploaded automatically only on Wi-Fi networks or using your iPhone’s cellular data connection; again, I suggest picking “Only Wi-Fi” to avoid excessive data charges. Once you’ve made your choice, tap the “Enable” button.
• Now, here’s the downside to Dropbox’s Camera Upload on the iPhone versus the Android version; once you turn it on, it will (annoyingly) start uploading all the photos in your camera roll, whether you like it or not. If you don’t want to wait several minutes or even hours for all your old snapshots to sync, you’ll have to go back to the Settings menu and flip the Camera Upload switch back to “off.”
